Kazakhstan, China strengthen cooperation
This year, Kazakhstan and China intend to launch joint projects in the transport industry. The countries expressed a real interest in enhancing cooperation and implementation of large-scale mutually beneficial projects. As the experts forecast, by 2020, the volume of trade in the region will increase to $1.2 trillion. Therefore, it is necessary to properly distribute the Eurasian transit-transport potential. Transportation of container cargo along the route China-Kazakhstan-Europe is the most optimal route. The Kazakh Minister of Investments and Development Zhenis Kassymbek during his working trip to China discussed the prospects of cooperation in the agricultural industry, engineering and logistics.
ZHENIS KASSYMBEK, KAZAKH MINISTER OF INVESTMENTS AND DEVELOPMENT:
We hope to start new projects in the next 5-6 years. They will benefit Kazakhstan by more than $25 billion. We have reached some agreements with China’s Minister of Transport. Starting from summer this year, Chinese companies will start working between Beijing and Astana.
Kazakhstan and China are planning to actively cooperate in the field of aviation. The number of flights will increase between the two countries ahead of the EXPO. This year, flights between Almaty-Beijing will be increased to seven a week and there will be four flights per week between Astana and Beijing. Also, additional flights Astana-Urumqi and Almaty-Urumqi will soon be opened. Zhenis Kassymbek discussed these prospects during the meeting with the Chinese Minister of Transport Li Xiaopeng. The Chinese businessmen expressed their intention to invest in the development of airports infrastructure in Astana and Almaty.
