Transition to Latin script
Tatar scientists interested in the transition of Kazakh language to the Latin script. Experts say that they also conduct similar scientific research. According to linguists, the transition will accurately convey the features of specific sounds. The philologists came to the conclusion that digraphs are more suitable for Turkic alphabets which are combination of letters to express a single sound. Today Tatarstan uses Latin in official communication.
ZAKIEV MIRFATYH, PHILOLOGIST, FULL MEMBER OF TATARSTAN’S ACADEMY OF SCIENCES:
- In order to keep writing in Latin words, we also recommended to use combination of several Latin letters for better expression of specific sounds. In my opinion, this will contribute to development. Especially, today kazakhs are focusing on the Mangilik Еl process. In this regard, the Latin script will last longer than other alphabets.
The Kostanai philologists are discussing the project on the transition to the Latin script, too. Experts are preparing their proposals for the use of this script. The Kostanai specialists intend to send a new alphabet to the project developers.
KENZHEGALI BIMAGANBETOV, HEAD, KOSTANAI DEPARTMENT FOR LANGUAGES DEVELOPMENT:
- There are conflicts concerning separate sounds. For example, sounds like "i", "h" and others. Moreover, "zh" and Cyrillic “ж” aren’t discussed. People are already accustomed to such use.
