The first Chinese-Turkmen tourism forum opened new horizons for residents of the two countries. The Turkmen visa service center named "Silk Road" was opened as part of the meeting in Beijing. It will significantly increase the flow of tourists, experts say. Representatives of state bodies, tourism and hotel business and a diplomatic corps representing Central Asian countries in China attended the forum. The sides called the meeting historic and expressed hope for expansion of cooperation between China and Turkmenistan.
ABDURAKHMAN MAMEDNIYAZOV, SPOKESPERSON, TURKMENISTAN'S STATE TOURISM AND SPORTS COMMITTEE:
- Firstly, we need to stir up the work of tourism agencies and tourists exchange companies. Secondly, we could exchange information on the tourist potential of the two countries, and thirdly, regularly exchange information on international exhibitions, fairs, tourism conferences held in Turkmenistan and in China.
CHINAR RUSTAMOVA, AMBASSADOR OF TURKMENISTAN TO CHINA:
- We think that Turkmenistan and China can establish contacts between the tourism ministries and tourism companies in the near future and thus start working on the development of cultural and educational tourism, sports tourism and equestrian tourism. We can cooperate with China in the field of business tourism, which is important for the expansion of trade and the potential between the two countries.
New visa service center will make Turkmenistan more accessible for Chinese tourists. Previously detached country will spark interest with its cultural heritage and nature.
YU SYANDUN, PRESIDENT TRAVEL COMPANY:
- Turkmenistan has great potential for developing relations with China as part of the One Belt One Road Initiative. A special emphasis is placed on tourism. We expect that opening of the visa center will double the number of Chinese tourists in Turkmenistan this year.
BABAGELDI CHARYEV, MANAGER, TRAVEL AGENCY:
- We are very interested in cooperation with Chinese companies. This forum was the first step for the further development of relations in this field. It allowed our potential partners to learn more about Turkmenistan.
Last year, about 10,000 Chinese tourists visited Turkmenistan, and 14,000 travelers from the Central Asian country visited China. The two sides are planning to open direct flights and create new tourist routes.
