Kazakhstan’s presidency in UN Security Council: expert opinions
Kazakhstan is a world leader in disarmament and non-proliferation of nuclear weapons. President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev has repeatedly spoken about measures and initiatives in this area with the most authoritative international organization, the UN Security Council. During Kazakhstan’s chairmanship in the UN Security Council, the President urged the world community to abandon weapons of mass destruction and strengthen confidence between the countries. According to Turkish political scientist Kutay Karaca, Kazakhstan is taking decisive steps to create a nuclear-free world.
KUTAY KARACA, PROFESSOR, NISANTASI UNIVERSITY:
- Nursultan Nazarbayev gave a number of significant proposals at a meeting of the UN Security Council. He proposed to preserve the unity between the countries to keep the world safe. We are all equal when it comes to the world problems. Regarding the closing of the nuclear test sites and abandoning of weapons of mass destruction; your country has made a great contribution to preservation of the world security. Kazakhstan leads by example and individual countries should abandon their ambitious plans to obtain their own benefits.
The German expert agreed with the opinion of the Turkish political scientist. According to the member of the Bundestag Axel Fischer, Nursultan Nazarbayev's initiative of nuclear disarmament, voiced at the meeting of the UN Security Council is a historic declaration on the preservation of peace. The politician highlighted that Kazakhstan significantly contributed to the activities of this organization. He noted that Kazakhstan is considered as a state that makes every effort to prevent conflicts and solve urgent global problems.
AXEL FISCHER, BUNDESTAG MEMBER, GERMANY:
- I welcome the initiatives of the President of Kazakhstan that has been voiced in New York. We live in the time when the topic of peace in the world is of very importance. Therefore, I think that the President’s anti-nuclear initiatives are very appropriate. We should discuss it with the countries that have the nuclear weapons today. Nursultan Nazarbayev also proposed Kazakhstan as a platform for peace talks. Your country already has the experience of hosting a peace process in Syria. The president’s new proposal is a good idea.
