VASILY ZHIROV OPENS BOXING ACADEMY IN KAZAKHSTAN
The first Olympic champion in boxing of the independent Kazakhstan, the owner of the Val Barker Cup, the former IBF World Champion in the first heavyweight Vasily Zhirov has visited Astana. The purpose of the visit by the legendary sportsman, who has lived in the US for the past 20 years, is to create a boxing academy in Kazakhstan. The management of the "Balkhash Tiger" is planning to be open sport complexes in Astana and Almaty by the end of the year.
VASILY ZHIROV, HONORED MASTER OF SPORTS OF KAZAKHSTAN:
- We want to open academies in Astana and Almaty, and then in America to train amateur children here, and professionals there. We could train the amateurs in Kazakhstan and then they could go to the U.S. and continue training to become professional boxers. There are many gifted children, I see that they have a bright future. I do not know how far they will go, but if we create a special group, a program for children, then they will have a good future.
In an interview to the Kazakh TV channel Vasily Zhirov told about his further plans. The athlete intends to implement a number of environmental projects aimed at protecting the natural landscapes of Kazakhstan.
