Kazakhstan won the first gold medal at the Universiade 2017

Kazakhstan won the first gold medal at the Universiade 2017. Biathlete Alina Raikova won the individual 15 kilometers race and became the two-time champion of the Student Games. Kazakhstan’s athlete finished distance in 59 minutes and 48.07 seconds. Another Kazakh athlete Galina Vishnevskaya finished just after her. She got silver. The Ukrainian Nadya Belkina entered the top three winners.


It is a very important race because, first of all, it takes place at home, and secondly, I didn’t want to disappoint our supporters. This medal was earned with hard work, you saw everything. I am so happy!

Kazakh skier Anna Shevchenko won her second medal. As a result of a 5 kilometers ski race, the Kazakh athlete demonstrated the third result edging out from Russia’s Anna Nechayeva and Liliya Vasilyeva. On the eve, she won the bronze medal in the individual 5 kilometers ski race.


I am lightweight therefore I didn’t have any problems. The competitors are almost the same weight; everyone was on an equal footing. I am satisfied, it is a good result.

In addition, Ekaterina Aidova secured the third place in 1,500 meters speed skating competition.

Kazakh athletes Zhibek Arapbaeva and Zhanbota Aldabergenova won silver and bronze respectively in the super final of the women's freestyle acrobatics. The Chinese Zhu Inin won the first place with 64.09 points. Arapbaeva scored as much as 60.84 points, Aldabergenova scored just 36 hundredths points less.

The competitions became a grandiose sports event. More than a half of the tickets, that is, 110,000 were sold out. The organizers expected such sales only by the end of the Universiade. Moreover, spectators visit competitions in both indoor stadiums and outdoor ski complexes. Along with the sports events, visitors are attracted to the awarding ceremony which, according to the Student Games’ tradition, takes place every day in the "Medal Plaza".


It is already open and located at Abai Square in front of the Republic Palace. It opens at 4pm every day featuring various concerts and performances. The awarding ceremony starts at 8pm, where visitors can see the athletes receiving their deserved medals.
