Kazakh figure skaters prepare for Universiade 2017
One of the most popular Universiade competitions figure skating will start on February 1. It will be held in a specially constructed Ice Palace Almaty Arena. Aiza Imanbek, Zhansaya Adykhanova and Veronika Shevelyova will represent Kazakhstan in the women's figure skating. Our figure skaters’ programs are ready, and now they are sharpening the final moves. For example, each performance of Aiza Imanbek is a small but vivid narration of the Kazakh culture. Her programs are always filled with national motifs.
AIZA IMANBEK, MEMBER, KAZAKHSTAN’S NATIONAL FIGURE SKATING TEAM:
I was very happy when I heard that Kazakhstan will host the Universiade. For me, it is an opportunity to represent Kazakhstan at the international competitions.
The Universiade will become a huge launch in Veronika Shevelyova’s career. She won the right to perform on ice with the national team as a result of the Kazakhstan open championship held at the Almaty Arena.
VERONIKA SHEVELYOVA, MEMBER, KAZAKHSTAN’S NATIONAL FIGURE SKATING TEAM:
The ice is smooth and the rink is huge, there are lots of space and light. I think it is the best ice rink in Kazakhstan.
According to figure skating standards, Zhansaya Adykhanova started her career late. She has been skating since she was 10 years old. However, she managed to outperform many other athletes in the national team.
ZHANSAYA ADYKHANOVA, MEMBER, KAZAKHSTAN’S NATIONAL FIGURE SKATING TEAM:
in a short program I’SS perform a rock version of ‘Romeo and Juliet’ which is far from the classic version. I like both of my programs. The second one is from the movie ‘Ladies in Lavender; it is a very lyrical song for free skating.
Organizers expect that spectators will be particularly interested in figure skating competitions of the Universiade. 12,000 spectators will be able to root for the figure skaters at the new Ice Palace.
