Remains of Sarmatian warrior are found in Atyrau region

Remains of a Sarmatian warrior were discovered during the excavations of three mounds in Kyzylkoga district, Atyrau region. Scientists suggested that the burial dates back to the 2nd-1st centuries BC. Experts said that the remains in iron vestments belonged to a man. A sword, arrowheads and a shield, a patera, equestrian equipment and other artifacts were found next to him. Based on the results of anthropological and DNA research, a work is planned to restore the skull and remains of the “iron” man. Scientists said it could take several more years to research the finding.

“These findings are unique not only for the region, but for Kazakhstan in general. Archaeologists managed to find a mound that has not been plundered yet. Thanks to this, we will be able to study the history, culture and life of our ancestors who lived 2,000 years ago,” said an archaeologist Marat Kassenov,
