Turkistan region renews historical objects dedicated to Al-Farabi’s anniversary
Kazakhstan marks the 1150th anniversary of Al-Farabi this year. In the homeland of the famous philosopher, in Otyrar district of Turkistan region, it was decided to celebrate the anniversary in a special way by erecting monuments and building parks in the ancient settlement of Otyrar, which was once the largest cultural and trade center.
“This year, we were going to hold a large-scale celebration of the 1150th anniversary of Al-Farabi. We had to cancel plans because of the quarantine. Instead, we decided to renovate the alley dedicated to the great philosopher and 29 other scientists, who were from the ancient city of Farab, which is now called Otyrar. We also plan to renovate “Kasret” district memorial,” said Abdigali Zhunusov, Mayor of Otyrar district.
A sculpture of kobyz and dombyra was erected at the entrance to the regional center in honor of the anniversary date.
“The cost of the project is 85 million tenge (US$201,787). Below the monument there is a map of historical and cultural sites. Everyone who comes here can navigate with its help. Also, a lawn was planted here and benches were installed for residents to rest,” said Chief Expert of the district utilities department Serzhan Abanov.
