Shymkent in the status of CIS Capital of Culture 2020 to hold seven online events
Seven international events will be held as part of the ‘Shymkent – CIS Capital of Culture’ Year, Head of the Department of Culture, Language Development and Archives of Shymkent Rashid Mynbayev said.
“The events for the ‘Shymkent – CIS Capital of Culture’ Year will be held in online format due to the quarantine regime introduced in the country. The activities will start in August and will last until the end of the year. During this time, seven international cultural events will take place, including the children’s concert ‘Shymkent – kairymdy kala’ (Shymkent is a good city), the concert of opera singers ‘Dostastyktyn opera zhuldyzdary’ (Opera stars of the Commonwealth), theater festivals, as well as readings of Abai’s ‘Words of Edification’, dedicated to the 175th anniversary of the great Kazakh philosopher, and so on,” Mynbayev said.
The Festival of folk instruments performers called ‘Music of the Peoples of the Commonwealth’ was launched on August 1 as part of the ‘Shymkent-2020 – CIS Capital of Culture’ Year. The event, which will last until August 15, aims at popularizing the uniqueness of cultural heritage and spiritual values among the peoples of the CIS countries, increasing spiritual ties, creative contacts, acquaintance with the musical cultural heritage of different peoples, preserving and developing the traditions of musical performance on folk instruments, as well as stimulating interest in studying and mastering samples of the traditional folk culture of the peoples of the CIS member states.
In addition, the ‘My Kazakhstan’ singing contest dedicated to the 90th birth anniversary of the Kazakh composer Shamshi Kaldayakov has started and will also last until August 15.
Shymkent has become the 16th cultural capital of the Commonwealth of Independent States. The official opening ceremony of the Year took place on June 19.
