Social media challenge promoting wearing masks goes viral in Kazakhstan

#МамаТыНаделаМаску (Did you put a mask on, Mom?) – new publications with this hashtag continue to appear on social media feed. In less than two days, more than 100 social media users made new posts on their social media accounts to spread a simple message: wear masks to save lives. Social media challenge was started by Head of the Unified Children and Youth Organization ‘Zhas Ulan’ Dinara Sadvakassova with the aim to call on protecting the older generation, our fathers and mothers, from contracting the COVID-19 infection. One by one, Kazakh residents joined the social media flash mob. According to the website of Nur-Sultan Mayor’s Office, the Kazakh capital’s branch of the military-patriotic movement ‘Zhas Sarbaz’ also joined the initiative.

“The COVID-19 epidemic spares no one, neither the young nor the elderly. That is why we must take care of our relatives, especially people of the older generation. Mother is the most precious person for everyone, she is the embodiment of goodness and the keeper of the hearth. The national organization ‘Zhas Ulan’ created this social media challenge, and we joined it. We urge all Kazakh residents to support this initiative as well,” said Chairperson of the branch of ‘Zhas Sarbaz’ military-patriotic movement in Nur-Sultan Askhat Nalshybek.

The social media challenge organizers said that in order to participate, people need to take a photo, or a video of a mother wearing a mask and post it on social media with a hashtag #МамаТыНаделаМаску and tagging @jasulan_qz.
