East Kazakhstan prepares for Abai’s 175th anniversary celebration
East Kazakhstan is getting ready to celebrate the 175th birth anniversary of Abai Kunanbaiuly. Several major projects will be implemented in the birthplace of the great Kazakh poet by the instruction of President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in order to celebrate his birth anniversary at the appropriate level. The first stopping point for the tourists will be the Syrt Kaskabulak village.
The monument perpetuating the birthplace of Abai was erected here. Stones were also installed in this place in order to engrave 45 Abai’s ‘Words of Edification’ on them. The museum of Kunanbai Oskenbaiuly, the father of Abai, will be built in the Akshoky tract. This project will cost nearly 300 million tenge (US$733,000). The funds will be allocated from the state budget.
“People didn’t talk about Abai’s father Kunanbai at all for many years. Currently, historians are studying his figure: what Kunanbai lived for and what kind of a man he was. Kunanbai Oskenbaiuly was a public figure and an authoritative sultan. Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev himself spoke about the importance of studying the legacy of Kunanbai,” said Kusman Berleshov, a descendant of the Kunanbai dynasty.
As part of the celebration of the anniversary, the East Kazakhstan region intends to implement 19 significant projects totaling to more than five billion tenge (US$12.2 million).
“The countrymen of the great philosopher Abai are especially enthusiastic about the celebration of his 175th birth anniversary. Two years ago, a special fund was created here. People make financial contributions in order to improve the infrastructure of the Abai district. In addition, the construction of the mosque has begun in the Karauyl village,” said Zharkynbek Baisabyrov, Governor of Abai district of East Kazakhstan region.
