Kazakhstan ranks second among CIS countries in MICE tourism development
Kazakhstan took the second place among the members of the Commonwealth of Independent States in the development of MICE tourism. The word ‘MICE’ stands for meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions. The International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) published its annual statistics report. Russia ranked first among the CIS countries. Kazakhstan ranked 79 in the world. This place is 20 positions higher than last year. The United States tops the first five countries in the ranking. The country hosted 934 events. Germany ranked second with 714 events. Next come France, Spain and the United Kingdom.
 
The ICCA ranking counts only the events of international associations with the participation of at least 50 delegates. According to the results of 2019, Kazakhstan hosted 18 events. The revenues from the organization of those events reached US$6 million (or 2.522 billion Tenge). More than 4,000 delegates took part in those meetings. Each of them spent an average of US$1,438 (or 604,590 Tenge).

In recent years, MICE tourism became one of the priority areas of tourism sector in Kazakhstan. The Kazakh Tourism plans a number of systemic measures to improve the attractiveness of our country for events with the participation of international associations in order to further the development this area and as one of the post-crisis strategies amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. In particular, the Kazakh Tourism plans to launch support programs, partnerships, as well as ‘Meet in Kazakhstan’ ambassadors, who will promote the hosting of MICE events in Kazakhstan,” said spokesperson of the Kazakh Tourism National Company Yernur Kenzhebekov.
