Kazakhstan Develops Winter Tourism
Extreme winter vacations are becoming increasingly popular. Tourists who seek adrenaline rush experiences choose Shymbulak which has the most suitable infrastructure offering travelers a wide range of activities, including, skiing and paragliding. In winter, the duration of the paraglide flight is 15 minutes, but in summer the flight can be enjoyed with an experienced instructor for 30 minutes.
“The highest starting point in Kazakhstan for paragliding is located in Shymbulak: the altitude is 3,200 meters, and we land at nearly 1,600 meters. It is the highest and the longest flight, and we fly from very high mountains. I started flying when I was a child, and I’ve been doing it for 30 years. Once I wanted to become a pilot, and then I’ve read a book that paragliding is a small step into the big sky, and so I fly on paragliders,” said Flying School Director, Yevgeniy Oreshkin.
Another favorite place for winter sports enthusiasts is the Medeu Ice-Skating Rink, which is the world’s largest high-mountain winter sports complex with the largest area of artificial ice field. It is located at an altitude of over 1,600 meters above sea level. More than 200 world records in speed skating were set in Medeu during its entire operational period.
