Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions to Be Held in June 2021

The 7th Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions will be held in the capital in June 2021.

The event was announced at the 18th meeting of the secretariat, where representatives of various faiths from 19 countries arrived.

The participants touched on several topics regarding religion. They exchanged opinions on the results of the 6th Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions which was held in October 2018.

In addition, the agenda of the 7th Congress was also considered. The parties will announce the proposals to hold the forum until March 2021.

Head of the Congress Secretariat, Dariga Nazarbayeva, highlighted in her speech that 16 years have passed since the Kazakh people gathered representatives of traditional religions around the world on a single platform.

“First President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev came up with the idea of organizing a Congress of leaders of world and traditional religions. The entire world recognized him as a peacemaker, who managed to carry out large-scale work in maintaining regional security and stability.” she said.

There is no similar platform in the world where the most important leaders in religion gather together in the same place, said Executive Secretary of Interreligious Council of Russia, Dimitriy Safonov.

“Now, when a Muslim mufti and an Orthodox shepherd sit at the same table, other leaders of the faith look and see that there is no opposition, and violence against other religions is unacceptable. This shows that we are all brothers and we are all together,” he added.
