Profession that saves children’s lives

Gulzhan Sarsenbayeva treats the hearts of young Kazakh citizens. The cardiologist has been diagnosing and operating newborns and older patients in the National Pediatrics and Pediatric Surgery Center in Almaty for more than 20 years. The doctor was recognized as the best pediatrician in the city in 2018 and was the winner of the ‘100 New Faces of Kazakhstan’ contest. (Gulzhan Sarsenbayeva is involved in research works and often visits rural areas to provide consultations).

GULZHAN SARSENBAYEVA, CARDIAC SURGEON:

- Kazakhstan’s healthcare is aimed to provide preventive measures using a personalized approach. As part of the preventive medicine, our center together with Karagandy Medical University is studying the health of school students. We travel to rural schools in (regions, such as) Turkistan and Almaty region and Almaty city to perform studies on the health of school students and their emotional state (and we provide recommendations).

Gulzhan continued learning as she won an educational grant of the Bolashak state program. (After completing the postgraduate (program) at a prestigious medical university in Moscow, the doctor continued practicing). (Today), the winner of the ‘100 New Faces of Kazakhstan’ project is one of the few cardiac surgeons capable of performing ultrasound diagnostics of heart defects.

GULZHAN SARSENBAYEVA, CARDIAC SURGEON:

-The Bolashak Association sent my application to the ‘100 New Faces of Kazakhstan’ project. They asked me to write about my latest accomplishments since my return to Kazakhstan. (When the voting began, my relative and patients of my parents sent me messages saying that they voted for me).

The doctor is planning to write a thesis work in the near future. According to Gulzhan, medical studies, such as cardiac surgery, cardiology and ultrasound diagnostics should be formed in a single discipline (and should be mastered by every surgeon).
