Children’s comic books in the Kazakh language were published in Kazakhstan. The books are titled ‘Grandfather Ybyrai’s Tales’ and ‘Ilyas and Zangar’s Tablet’. The two books are set to promote qualities such as kindness, ethics and positive attitude towards life among children. Kazakh writer Ybyrai Altynsarin’s famous tales, including ‘Father and Son’, ‘A Magpie and a Crow’, ‘Trees in the Garden’ were included in the first book. The author of ‘Ilyas and Zangar’s Tablet’ is Ularbek Nurgalymuly. He wrote this fairy tale for his children. Later, the author decided to collect his fairy tales and publish a book. Each book was published in 3,000 copies. The author says that there is a lack of children’s book in the Kazakh language. That is why, 200 copies of the books were immediately sold after publication.
ULARBEK NURGALYMULY, AUTHOR:
- Sometimes I write fairy tales for my children so they don’t get bored. I wrote a story of ‘Ilyas and Zangar’s Tablet.’ My children kept asking me for more stories. It is difficult to find the image of a Kazakh boy in comics. This book is not a solution either. However, steps have been taken. Often foreign book feature blue-eyed blond characters. There are few heroes that the Kazakh children can relate to. I want the children to be able relate to their comic book heroes.
- My dad reads this book to me before I get to sleep. I like the pictures and interesting topics in the book. I enjoy reading the stories.
