A memorial plaque in memory of Denis Ten was opened in Almaty
A memorial plaque in memory of Kazakhstan figure skater, bronze medalist of the Olympic Games Denis Ten, was opened in Almaty, reports Tengrinews.kz.
A memorial plaque is installed on the facade of the house along Nazarbayev Avenue. An athlete was born and lived in this house.
Tatyana Tarasova, Honored Coach of the USSR, Master of Sports of the USSR of international level, and Russian figure skater Elena Radionova came especially for the opening ceremony.
Tatyana Tarasova was Denis Ten’s coach in CSKA from 2003 to 2010. She had not been to Kazakhstan before, and this is her first visit.
“He wanted to glorify this country. So happened that he died in this country. Millions of people who watched his performances, have searched Kazakhstan on the map. Not everyone knows where the country is located, but everyone has learned that through him. He was the great son of his people. I was lucky to work with him. So loving of his profession, understanding that you can achieve a lot through the profession. He was the best among best. He was a unique guy since childhood.” – said Tatyana Tarasova
At the opening ceremony, Deputy Mayor of Almaty Arman Kyrykbaev said that a sketch for the monument to Denis Ten is being developed. According to him, the monument will be installed in spring.
Denis Ten died from stab wounds on July 19, 2018. The skater was attacked by car stealers, who were caught at the crime scene. The incident occurred at the intersection of Kurmangazy and Baiseitov streets.
