Supporting domestic filmmakers
Representatives of the Kazakh Ministry of Culture and Sports are proposing to create a fund to support the national cinema. According to the representatives of the ministry, the organization will deal with distribution of state funds allocated for film production, movie rentals and screenings as well as further promotion of domestic films. Until now, this has been done by Kazakh Film studio. The funds will be distributed for independent studios and producers as an open competition. Financing socially significant films will be a priority. Historical and patriotic films, documentaries, animations and feature films as well as film festivals will be fully financed. Mass and commercial projects will be partially sponsored. Changes will affect dubbing of foreign language films releasing in Kazakhstan.
KUMIS SEITOVA, SENIOR STAFF, KAZAKH MINISTRY OF CULTURE AND SPORTS:
- Over 300 films are imported to Kazakhstan on average. Most of the films do not contain an important educational and intellectual component. Therefore, we believe we do not need the mandatory dubbing of all foreign language films. Therefore, we add options such as subtitles or voice-overs.
