Kazakh President’s Address: Development of alternative energy
Ukrainian alternative energy experts noted the importance of the development of the natural and resource potential of Kazakhstan outlined in the address of Nursultan Nazarbayev. The head of the first Ukrainian energy cooperative Sergei Grin believes that Kazakhstan has an enormous opportunity for the development of "green" energy.
SERGEI GRIN, CHAIRMAN, UKRAINIAN ENERGY COOPERATIVE
- We very much like the attitude of Kazakhstan and the leader of the country to alternative energy. The exhibition recently held on the topic of renewable energy was just a role model. I believe Kazakhstan has the colossal potential in both solar and wind energy. Every citizen, becoming a member of a certain cooperative, gets the opportunity to consume electricity and utilize some part of the capacity to meet own needs.
Natural resources played a significant role for Kazakhstan during its formation, the head of the Italian Institute for Eurasian Studies, Franco Frattini, says. The former Italian Foreign Minister agrees with the opinion of the Kazakh President, and notes that investments in "green" technologies are needed today.
FRANCO FRATTINI, PRESIDENT, ITALIAN INSTITUTE FOR EURASIAN STUDIES:
- Diversification of energy sources, their study and development, I think, is a must. It will contribute to even greater growth of your country. Even though Kazakhstan has extensive energy resources it is good to think about what will happen when they run out. Even if this future is rather distant.
