D. Nazarbayeva and V. Matviyenko discussed cooperation of Kazakstan and Russia

As part of an official visit to Russia, the Chairperson of the Senate of the Kazakh Parliament, Dariga Nazarbayeva, met with the Chairperson of the Council of Russia, Valentina Matviyenko.

The parties held discussions on a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation from economy to culture and parliaments of the two countries. They highlighted that the multifaceted relations between Kazakhstan and Russia remain very close.

Dariga Nazarbayeva emphasized the necessity to consistently develop the potential of cross-border cooperation and suggested considering the issue of raising the status of checkpoints between Kazakhstan and Russia. She also offered to simplify border crossing procedures as much as possible.

The Chairperson of the Senate also proposed to introduce a parity visa system. She paid special attention to the use of the transboundary river resources.

“80 percent of the water is formed on the Russian territory and the water level in the Kazakh part of the Ural River basin depends on the operation of hydro-technical structures. This is not just a problem between the two regions, Orenburg and Uralsk, this is a problem that affects several regions in Kazakhstan and impacts the level of economic development of this region as well as in five provinces from Russia,” Nazarbayeva said.

Matviyenko highlighted that it is important that businessmen see and feel a favorable political situation as well as favorable relations between countries and find areas for cooperation. It has been created more than 6,500 joint enterprises.

The volume of accumulated Russian investments amounts to more than 13 billion. Kazakhstan's investments in the Russian economy amount to more than four billion.
