Kazakh President Toqayev Pays State Visit to Uzbekistan

President of Kazakhstan, Qasym-Jomart Toqayev held discussions with President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev as part of his state visit to Uzbekistan.

The two presidents signed a joint agreement on the expansion and strengthening of the neighboring countries’ relations and regional cooperation.

At a media briefing held in Tashkent, Toqayev noted that the two countries will enhance their trade activities, improve industrial cooperation and develop the promising transit-transport sector.

He said the countries also discussed the possibility of launching additional air and rail routes between Kazakh and Uzbek cities as well as developing the energy sector.

“As the President of Kazakhstan, I intend to ensure the continuity of the policy of the First President of Kazakhstan and the development of the comprehensive Kazakh-Uzbek interaction. This is confirmed by the joint statement of the presidents, which was signed today.”

“Dear ladies and gentlemen, today my colleague Shavkat Miromonovich Mirziyoyev and I had meaningful and through negotiations. Special attention was paid to the development of economic relations,” Toqayev said.

The president added that Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan will continue to maintain the almost 50% share of all intra-regional trade that both countries are holding in Central Asia.

Meanwhile, Mirziyoyev said that the meeting held with Toqayev has resulted in the upcoming development of a road map.

“We will cooperate on this roadmap and we agreed that the commission will cooperate and we have raised the level of intergovernmental commission to the level of Prime Ministers. This will give us a new impetus and this roadmap which we have agreed on today will be implemented in full,” he added.

President Toqayev and President Mirziyoyev also discussed the security aspects as well as possible threats and challenges to the region.

They have also agreed to collaborate on the settlement of the Afghan conflict and implement social projects in Afghanistan.

Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan will also implement joint efforts to save the Aral Sea.

Toqayev’s arrival at the Islam Karimov Tashkent International Airport was greeted by Uzbek Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulaziz Kamilov and Mayor of Tashkent Jahongir Ortikhodjaev.

The Kazakh president has extended his invitation for the Uzbek president to pay a state visit to the capital of Kazakhstan, Nur-Sultan.
