Kazakhstan’s Presidential Elections: Candidates’ Nomination Starts on April 10th
The Central Election Commission of Kazakhstan has announced the schedule of the main activities of the presidential election in the country.
Deputy Chairperson of the Central Election Commission, Konstantin Petrov said the political parties will be able to nominate their candidates starting from April 10th until April 28th.
“Following that, the Central Election Commission will identify the candidates’ compliance with the Constitution and legal requirements,” he said.
The election campaign starts on May 11th and June 8th will be the cooling period. The polling day was announced on June 9th.
Preliminary results of the election will be announced two days after the election and the new president will take office on June 16th.
Petrov said as of January 1st, 2019 a total of 11,814,019 citizens with voting rights are included in the voter registration in Kazakhstan.
“Therefore, if each nominated candidate meets the requirements established by the Constitution and the Constitutional Law, has to collect 118,140 reliable signatures of voters to support his or her candidacy,” he said.
The collection of signatures is organized by proxies of presidential candidates.
The territorial election commissions will then conduct the registration of the proxies as well as the procedure of verifying the authenticity of the signatures with the involvement of passport authorities.
