Kazakhstan’s mission in the UN Security Council

Kazakhstan’s mission in the UN Security Council ends on December 31 of this year. The Kazakh delegation continues to work actively in the UN Security Council to maintain international peace and security. Representatives of the republic participate in open debates offering solutions to combat terrorism as well as solving the situation in the Middle East and other contemporary challenges. The Kazakh delegation is also promoting initiatives to strengthen global security.

KAIRAT UMAROV, PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF KAZAKHSTAN IN UN SECURITY COUNCIL:

- Each country protects its sovereignty. If interests are affected the situation is always painful and sensitive for each country. It always happens in the UN Security Council. We managed to pass all of it working as objective players in this field. I think that we have accomplished the goal that the President has set for us which is to be honest brokers, moderators and assistants in solving many complicated political problems that exist today.

Kairat Umarov says that Kazakhstan’s emergence as part of the UN Security Council took place in a difficult geopolitical situation in the world. However, the country managed to have a balanced and well-considered policy through peaceful and diplomatic means.

KAIRAT UMAROV, PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF KAZAKHSTAN IN UN SECURITY COUNCIL:

- Almost all seven priorities by the Head of State have been implemented. Very good progress has been made on many issues, and this causes a very good response and appreciation both from members of the UN Security Council and from the UN General Assembly. Of course, we joined the UN Security Council at a very symbolic time. It was the 25th anniversary of the independence of Kazakhstan. More than 60 UN member states were not part of the UN Security Council. Out of 193 countries we were among the elite and joined the main important body.

During the work in the UN Security Council, many non-permanent members were guided by the Kazakh side. They were confident that Kazakhstan has full-fledged information on a particular international problem and makes informed decisions. Completing its work in the UN Security Council, Kazakhstan leaves a solid legacy. The attention of the international community is attracted to the Central Asian region, which has been opened up as a reliable partner for cooperation in peace, security and sustainable development.
