Kazakhstan’s global initiatives are aimed at achieving peace, stability and security. One of the first initiatives was aimed at the establishment of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia. Another initiative was focused on the signing of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT). Kazakhstan’s role in non-proliferation has increased with the creation of the IAEA Low Enriched Uranium Bank, designed to facilitate access to peaceful nuclear energy and prevent countries from developing their own enrichment programs. According to international experts, many countries express their intention to explore Kazakhstan’s experience in giving up nuclear weapons.

- I think North Korea really demand a lot from international community, from the key regional players, from those who really administer the peace process. So, it is very important for them to ask this kind of questions so that they can have confidence. It is called confidence building measures.
During Kazakhstan’s presidency in the United Nations Security Council, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev’s initiative aimed at achieving a world free of terrorism was implemented. In September of 2018, Nursultan Nazarbayev proposed to develop a special code that obliges the signatories to ensure security. Leaders of more than 70 countries have signed the document. These and many other proposals set forth by Kazakhstan are highly appreciated by foreign analysts.
