President Nursultan Nazarbayev at the 4th meeting of the Astana Club

President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev announced a proposal to create a continental collective security organization. He made the announcement at the fourth meeting of the Astana Club. President Nazarbayev also highlighted the danger of the return of world powers to the arms race and military confrontation. He also highlighted that the situation with agreements on the elimination of medium and short-range missiles is becoming critical.

NURSULTAN NAZARBAYEV, PRESIDENT OF KAZAKHSTAN:

 - I think that Asia needs its own collective security organization. I think its appearance is a matter of time. The Kazakh Initiative, specifically, a meeting on confidence-building measures in Asia, in which 30 states of the Asian continent are participating today, could be a foundation to organize future cooperation in Asia. This organization and the OSCE could establish a security zone throughout the Eurasian subcontinent. Towards implementation of this step, I propose to organize a joint consultative meeting of the OSCE, CICA and ASEAN on security. (Secretariats of these forums could meet to revise the positions).

Meanwhile, Nursultan Nazarbayev thanked experts who arrived in Astana to discuss global issues. The forum is devoted to discussing the challenges in Eurasia. Prominent world politicians, Nobel laureates and authors of world geopolitical bestsellers traditionally gathered at the Astana Club meeting. The participants in the international discussion platform also discussed changes in the global economy and new challenges that humanity is facing. The experts say that geopolitical problems can be solved with the help of economic integration and globalization.
