Kazakh president’s official visit to Belgium
Kazakh President paid an official visit to Belgium and met King Philippe of Belgium. At the meeting, the leader and the King discussed the prospects of cooperation. Nursultan Nazarbayev presented Kazakhstan’s investment potential. According to President Nazarbayev, European countries are Kazakhstan’s important trade, economic and investment partners. Since the first days of independence, US$180 billion of direct European investments have been injected into Kazakhstan, including more than US$4 billion from Belgium. Trade volume continues growing. Last year, trade amounted to more than US$33 billion, while the value totaled US$24 billion in the first half of this year. There are about 3,000 European-invested enterprises operating in Kazakhstan.
NURSULTAN NAZARBAYEV, PRESIDENT OF KAZAKHSTAN:
- Kazakhstan provides new opportunities and a large potential for business development. We set an ambitious task of entering the top 30 developed countries. Therefore, all our programs, including Kazakhstan’s industrialization, infrastructure, agricultural and social programs are aimed to reach this goal. We are constantly working on the improvement of the investment climate and protection of the rights of investors. Kazakhstan became an associate member of the OECD Investment Committee and joined the Declaration on International Investment. There is a Council of Foreign Investors operating under the President of Kazakhstan which regularly holds meetings every year. Kazakhstan is ranked 36th among 190 countries in the World Bank's Doing Business rankings.
Nursultan Nazarbayev invited Belgian businessmen to invest in the promising agricultural industry projects. The President met with officials of global trade and investment development companies. The parties also discussed cooperation with AIFC including the attraction of global corporations and financial institutions to Kazakhstan.
