Kazakhstan in international arena
Kazakhstan is well known for its initiatives and peacekeeping activities in the international arena. The republic actively participates in global processes in all areas. Topics of sustainable development until 2030 were discussed in the United Nations (UN) Headquarters in New York. The forum participants highlighted that development of education sector is important. Kazakhstan’s work was highlighted as one of the examples in this area. Representatives of the UN Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) spoke about the important mission of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University which chairs the United Nations Academic Impact and the UNESCO Regional Hub for Sustainable Development in Central Asia. According to the UNAOC representatives, the university pays a lot of attention to the intercultural dialogue.
HANIFA MEZOUI, SENIOR ADVISOR, UNITED NATIONS ALLIANCE OF CIVILIZATIONS:
- On how to solve the problem in education when you are a minority, when you are discriminated. How you can survive by getting education? Not education to read and to write, but education to survive, to become spiritual because that aspect of spirituality is lost. I have been in Astana. I have been in Almaty and I was very touched by the country’s spirit.
Japan is also supporting Kazakhstan’s initiatives. Today, Astana and Tokyo has close political, economic, cultural and humanitarian relations. Fruitful cooperation continues during the joint work in the UN Security Council.
KORO BESSHO, JAPANESE PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE TO UNITED NATIONS:
- Kazakhstan have been working together on this important issue of peace and security in the world, especially concerning the nuclear disarmament but also in many other areas as well. The brief today I think had three main messages to give. One is that there is a very strong relationship between the work of Security Council and the work of ICG and other international tribunals that it is not just written in the United Nations charter but it has actually been done.
