Unique institution of interethnic harmony
The unique experience of Kazakhstan’s Ethnic Assembly is an example of interethnic harmony for many countries. The Assembly’s successful operations became a model for the establishment of the Russian Ethnic Assembly in 1998, six years after the Kazakh association was founded. The two organizations have established close and effective cooperation.
SVETLANA SMIRNOVA, CHAIRPERSON, RUSSIAN ETHNIC ASSEMBLY’S COUNCIL:
- Kazakhstan’s Ethnic Assembly is a model for us. We are studying their practices and following their example. Many projects initiated by Kazakhstan’s Ethnic Assembly are very useful for Russia. Kazakhstan’s Ethnic Assembly works on bringing the nation together. All ethnic groups and ethnocultural associations in Kazakhstan are under the Assembly’s protection.
Russian experts acknowledge the special status of Kazakhstan’s Ethnic Assembly. They say that Kazakh President’s chairmanship of the Assembly is a testimony of the government’s special attention to the ethnic policy in Kazakhstan.
VLADIMIR ZORIN, PRESIDENTIAL COUNCIL FOR RUSSIAN INTER-ETHNIC RELATIONS:
- It is important that the general environment of peace, well-being and harmony dominates and prevails in Kazakhstan. It results from the Kazakh tradition and is supported by the current policy and practices.
NAZIRZHON ABDUGANIYEV, CHAIRMAN, RUSSIAN ETHNIC ASSEMBLY’S EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE:
- It is a great honor for us to work with our Kazakh colleagues because they were the first to establish the Ethnic Assembly in Kazakhstan, which is an example for us. We have strong cooperation with the Kazakhstan Assembly.
Besides the Russian Assembly, the ethnic policy in Russia is supervised by the Ethnicities Committee of the State Duma and the Federal Ethnicities Agency. All these bodies have cooperation memorandums with Kazakhstan’s Ethnic Assembly.
