Voluminous Kazakh texts into Latin within minutes
A phased transition to the Latin alphabet in Kazakhstan is targeted by 2025. The initiative of the President is supported by the younger generation. For example, a student from Karaganda created software that allows users to translate voluminous Kazakh texts into Latin within minutes. At the same time, the new software also contains drawings and formulas that are included in science subjects.
MAGZHAN OMEN, PROJECT AUTHOR:
- There is another aspect of the program. If you type the Cyrillic letters on the keyboard, the display will show Latin letters.
The software was created by the student within a month and a half. The invention has received a copyright certificate and will be patented soon. Currently, Magzhan is working on the mobile app version of the software.
DAULET ALIBIYEV, DEAN, KARAGANDA STATE UNIVERSITY:
- It can be said that this invention is a great success for our university. We have an electronic device in Kazakh language and it includes all scientific articles and textbooks. And we will translate all this into Latin alphabet. Now we are waiting for the final approval of the new Kazakh alphabet in Latin.
The methods of transition to the Latin alphabet were discussed in the Kostanay (Костанай) region. Philologists, historians and linguists have met with the residence of 12 districts. Free language courses on the study of the Latin alphabet are organized in many villages today. The non-governmental organizations are planning to be involved in the implementation of the training projects in the future.
KENZHEGALI BIMAGANBETOV, STAFF, LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT:
- We are all expecting the formulation of the orthography. After these rules are taught to the general public, we will continue with this work.
