Kazakhstan at Boao Forum for Asia
Kazakh government plans to boost freight traffic from China to Kazakhstan to two million containers a year. The main task is expanding the number of trains and improvement of quality of services by 2020. In seven years, container transport from China to Kazakhstan grew almost 200 times. At the Boao Forum, government officials discussed developments in the area of freight traffic between Kazakhstan and China. Asia's, as well as European countries and organizations, gathered at the Forum themed “An Open and Innovative Asia for a World of Greater Prosperity.” According to the chairman of Kazakhstan’s national railroad company, Kanat Alpysbayev, representing Kazakhstan at the Boao Forum for Asia, cooperation between Kazakhstan and China in freight traffic is rapidly developing.
KANAT ALPYSBAYEV, CHAIRMAN, ‘KAZAKHSTAN TEMIR ZHOLY’ NATIONAL COMPANY:
- Services involve not only railroads. To accelerate freight movement across the borders and freight clearance we developed an advance information system to ensure speedy freight handling across the borders of Kazakhstan and China and their further moving on to Europe through Belarus and Poland. Today, many trains transit from various provinces of China. I would like to note that to further improve the services we also need to improve the throughput rate.
