The sixth round of Astana process on Syria settlement is taking place in Kazakhstan’s capital. 24 opposition groups are taking part in the negotiations. The Russian delegation is led by Alexander Lavrentiev, Russian president’s Syrian settlement envoy. Delegations of Turkey and Iran are headed by Deputy Foreign Ministers Sedat Onal and Jaber Ansari. Special Envoy of the UN Secretary General for Syria, Staffan de Mistura is attending the meeting as well. American delegation is led by acting assistant secretary of state for Near East affairs, David Satterfield, Jordan delegation – by Jordanian Foreign Ministry's special advisor for political issues Nawaf Uasfi Tel. The meeting participants are discussing a number of documents that will regulate the activities of the de-escalation control forces, and trying to reach agreement on the composition of the control forces in Idlib.

- Europe supports the Syrian talks in Astana. Finally, we are getting close to solving the conflict. We are very worried by flow of refugees to Europe. As soon as the conflict is over in the region, Syrians will stop leaving their country. These negotiations will allow people who fled to Turkey and Europe to return to their home. We see that the Syrian conflict isn’t easy to resolve. However, I want to highlight Kazakhstan’s and President Nursultan Nazarbayev’s contribution to this peace process. I think that Kazakhstan could play the role of an intermediary in solving other conflicts, including the Korean peninsula.
