Petrochemical technopark being built in Atyrau
Construction of Atyrau Petrochemical Technopark is entering the active stage. The infrastructure is being built now. This special economic zone has been created for breakthrough investment projects. Atyrau region’s rich hydrocarbon deposits will become the main source of raw materials for the petrochemical industry. An agreement has been already signed with Tengiz field developers.
NURBOL NURDAULET, STAFF, ‘NATIONAL INDUSTRIAL PETROCHEMICAL TECHNOPARK’ SEZ:
- At present, contracts for the supply of methane and propane to the territory of the special economic zone (SEZ) have been concluded with Tengizchevroil. As part of the KLP polyethylene production project, it is planned to supply raw materials through the pipeline from the Tengiz section to this territory.
At present, it is the only plant on the territory of the SEZ that produces polyethylene film and products from it. Raw materials are still imported from abroad. But this summer, it is planned to build a hydrocarbon feedstock complex. The industrial production, which have already sparked interest among international companies, will begin in three years.
KANAT MYNSHALOV, DEPUTY CHAIRMAN, KPI INC:
- We have signed an off-take contract with Vinmar International that will sell 100% of our products. However, we are planning to sell 5-10% in Kazakhstani market. We need to supply raw materials to Polymer Production. The other part will be exported.
Kazakhstani raw materials will be much cheaper than imported raw materials but will be of the same quality, the project initiators say. This will significantly decrease the production costs. The next stage will be the construction of a polyethylene production complex with the capacity of 800,000 tons per year.
