KAZAKHSTAN AND FINLAND ENJOY STRENGTHENED COOPERATION
Finland is ready to become a gateway for Kazakhstan to the countries of Northern Europe. Direct flights from Astana to Helsinki will be launched in June. The flights will be carried out by the leading Finnish airline Finair. This year marks the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Finland was one of the first countries in Northern Europe to recognize the independence of Kazakhstan. Today, Kazakhstan is Finland's main partner in Central Asia. Trade between the countries amounted to US$ 63 million in the first quarter.
ILKKA RAISANEN, FINISH AMBASSADOR TO KAZAKHSTAN:
- Astana has become a gateway for Finland to entire Central Asia. We really hope that Helsinki is the gateway for Kazakhstan to Northern Europe. Astana is a sister-town of Oulu, the capital of Northern Scandinavia which is a smart city with advanced information technologies. Our country is happy to participate in the upcoming expo. The main and most interesting section of our pavilion is dedicated to clean energy and to waste converted into energy. Owing to this exhibition, we want to develop cooperation with companies in this field as well as to attract young scientists to study in our country.
Finland is the only Scandinavian country which is officially represented at Astana EXPO 2017. At the exhibition, the Finnish pavilion will present its know-how in education. The Nordic country tops in the international education rankings. Kazakhstan expects the visit of Finnish President Sauli Niinisto. He will take part in the national day of Finland in Kazakhstan. Oulu Culture Days will be held in Astana in June 18-19.
