EURASIAN ECONOMIC UNION BUILDS CAPACITY
Turkey highly appreciates the potential of the Eurasian Economic Union, which includes Kazakhstan. Integration experts have discussed prospects of cooperation between the union and Turkey in Moscow. Turkish businessmen are eager for cooperation with the countries of the Eurasian five in a new format.
AYDYNBASH HAIREDDIN, HEAD OF EURASIAN HOUSE INTELLECTUAL CLUB, TURKEY:
- Kazakhstan today is a strong global player. Astana Expo 2017 is a strong proof of the country’s economic growth and political role on the international arena. Kazakh-Turkish relations have a long history. We have well-established relations with each of the member countries of the union. Now we want to reach a new level - to cooperate in the framework of a new economic union, and we are working on it.
YURY COFNER, DIRECTOR, CENTER FOR EURASIAN RESEARCH:
- Of course, there is great interest on both sides; the Turkish Minister of Economy and Nursultan Nazarbayev supported the cooperation talks. Turkey has great economic interest and great business activity, especially in construction. Therefore, strengthening of cooperation between Turkey and the Eurasian Economic Union makes a lot of sense. How will it look like? Most likely, it could be the Free Trade Zone or some agreement on economic and trade partnership.
Nearly fifty countries have expressed a desire to work with the economic union in the past year. The Eurasian Economic Union has already signed an Agreement on the Free Trade with Vietnam and is negotiating to deepen cooperation with Iran, Egypt, Israel, India and other states.
