COOPERATION BETWEEN KAZAKHSTAN AND SOUTH KOREA
Kazakhstan and South Korea intend to expand cooperation in all spheres. South Korea is interested in Kazakhstan’s transit potential. This was stated by experts and businessmen at the international logistics exhibition in Seoul. Representatives of the Kazakh Embassy told the seminar participants about Kazakhstan’s investment climate and logistics opportunities for shipping goods from Asia to Europe via Kazakhstan’s territory. At present, South Korean businessmen send their goods to European countries by sea. It takes 33 days. Delivering goods to Europe through Kazakhstan by rail after bringing them to China by sea takes 21 days, which is less time and more cost-effective. Japan, South Korea, Kazakhstan and China have agreed on lowering tariffs for railway transportation.
KIM MIN JOHN, SPOKESPERSON, MINISTRY OF INFRASTRUCTURE SOUTH KOREA:
- We ship electronics, cars and accessories from South Korea to Europe. Fuel and industrial equipment are supplied from Europe and Kazakhstan. Customs clearance is one of the most complicated when transporting via railway. The codes of goods are different in each country.
KIM KWANG SEOK, SPOKESPERSON, LOGISTICS COMPANY:
- Kazakhstan is an important country in terms of transit of our goods to Europe. Shipment by rail is faster than by sea, but more expensive. However, we intend to send goods through your country if tariffs are lowered and if the flow of goods increases from Kazakhstan to South Korea.
Last year, trade turnover between the countries amounted to $676 million. Exports revenue reached $223 million. South Korea is mainly interested in minerals, including uranium, lead, copper and gold.
DULAT BAKISHEV, KAZAKH AMBASSADOR TO SOUTH KOREA:
- We are planning to expand cooperation in financial sector, banking and public services. South Korea will present its alternative energy sources in Expo 2017. Koreans achieved considerable results in this sphere. They will not just display them but also will share their experience in their creation.
Kazakhstan and South Korea are marking 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations. The states are currently expanding cooperation in all spheres.
