Kazakhstan in UN Security Council

Kazakhstan’s election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council is the diplomatic success of all Kazakhstan citizens, director of the Central Asian Studies Institute of the South Korean Kangnam University Phil Kim says. He reminded that this goal was set by Kazakhstan in 2010, and it was achieved. This success is deserved, the expert says. Over 25 years of independence, Kazakhstan has been promoting the renunciation of nuclear weapons. Kazakhstan is one of the initiators and leaders of the global anti-nuclear movement. This fact is recognized by the entire world community. Official Astana is pursuing a policy of global security. Kazakhstan’s peacekeeping initiatives spread over the world.

I was amazed by Kazakhstan’s endeavor to rid the world of nuclear weapons by 2045 ahead of the UN’s 100th anniversary. I hope that Kazakhstan will also make efforts to constructively resolve the problems of nuclear weapons on the Korean peninsula, which requires the early resumption of multilateral negotiations on this issue.

Pursuing peace, Kazakhstan is actively cooperating with African countries and chairs the Somalia and Eritrea Sanctions Committee. At present, Kazakhstan is strengthening its cooperation with Ethiopia. The state has also become a non-permanent member of the Security Council for 2017-2018. The country represents the African continent in the main UN body and, together with Kazakhstan, participates in solving global issues of peace and security. Kazakhstan and Ethiopia signed a memorandum of understanding on political consultations between the foreign ministries and work within the framework of landlocked developing countries (LLDC) organization.

Kazakhstan has been really contributing to the peace of the world as the non-permanent member of the Security Council. So, this is really a commitment, it shows that Kazakhstan is not only for Asia, not only for another country, especially for Africa, which connect us, which we have a lot of common things together.
