Astana to host Placido Domingo’s Operalia
The most prestigious vocalists’ competition Operalia, founded by the great opera singer and conductor Placido Domingo, will be held in Kazakhstan for the first time. The 25th vocal competition will be held between July 24 and July 29 at the Astana Opera with the support of the Kazakh Ministry of Culture and Sports. 40 talented vocalists from across the world will arrive in Astana. Preliminary selection of online applications is planned to be completed in February. The contest will be held in three rounds and will be finished with a gala concert with the participation of the finalists, accompanied by the Symphony Orchestra of Astana Opera directed by maestro Domingo. The total prize fund of the contest will amount to $180,000.
PLACIDO DOMINGO, OPERA SINGER:
The competition will take place in the month of July in Astana, Kazakhstan. In this occasion it will be in the new opera house few years only.
Singers of all voice types aged between 18 and 32 years can take part in the Operalia. The competition was founded in Paris in 1993, where it was held for the first time at the famous Grand Opera. Since then, the Operalia is held annually in different countries at the most prestigious venues, including, the legendary La Scala in Milan, London’s Covent Garden and the Royal Theatre in Madrid.
