UK-Kazakhstan inter-governmental commission holds meeting
Kazakhstan and the United Kingdom are strengthening cooperation. Eight documents have been signed in London following the third meeting of the Kazakh-British Inter-governmental Commission. These are intergovernmental agreements and commercial agreements worth nearly $1.5 billion in subsoil use, innovations, technology, and development of renewable energy sources. One of the most important documents is the memorandum on copper and gold mining in Stepnogorsk. ‘Central Asian Metals’ mining company during the entire period of work in Kazakhstan has paid taxes in the amount of $74 million and created over 400 jobs.

Today this afternoon there was signing of new agreement with a local company to acquire an interesting and exploration project in Stepnogorsk, in the north of Astana. Currently, we are operating at Kounrad plantery, which is near Balkhash, where we recover copper from small dams.
The Representatives of the Independent Power Corporation, the leading British company on the development of production capacities took part in the meeting. They have been delivering new generation eco-friendly technologies to Kazakhstan for the past 20 years.

A year ago, we signed a project with Kaztransgaz on building two pipe plants, linked to new pipeline to be built in Kazakhstan. But in the shorter, more focusing on today, there is creation of a new power generation capacity in the south of Kazakhstan.
The Governor’s Office of Kyzylorda region and the British company have signed Energy Metals agreement. It aims to finance the implementation of the second and the third stage of black shales autoclave processing on ‘Bala Sauyskandyk’ deposit
KRYMBEK KUSHERBAYEV, GOVERNOR OF KYZYLORDA REGION:
This is agreement worth $125 million is on organization of the production of vanadium on the territory of Shiyeli district in Kyzylorda region. This project will create over 700 new jobs. The project is promising and it will have the second and third stages. I hope that the total investments volume will make up $257 million, as experts estimate.
The members of the Intergovernmental Commission have also discussed the cooperation in education, science and technology. Presentations were made about the EXPO 2017 and investment opportunities as part of the Silk Road economic belt. The parties will hold the next meeting in Astana as part of EXPO 2017.
