Kazakh volunteers prepare for EXPO 2017
Students of the Eurasian National University have a possibility to contribute to the large-scale international event, and at the same time to expand their knowledge of foreign languages. They will take part in the exhibition Expo 2017. Recently, the university chiefs have concluded a partnership agreement with the General Commissariat of France within the framework of the international exhibition. The document suggests that university students, who are fluent in French, will pass a three-month internship in the French pavilion.
YERLAN SYDYKOV, RECTOR, EURASIAN NATIONAL UNIVERSITY:
There are, first of all, the pavilion maintenance staff, interpreters, guides and other assistants. Our students speak several languages, so the signed contract is only the beginning. Our students are in demand, because they speak Chinese, Arabic, English, and Spanish.
PASCAL LORO, COMMISSIONER OF FRANCE’S EXPO 2017 PAVILION:
Kazakhstan and France are working closely, and it is pleasant that Kazakh youth will participate in such large-scale events like EXPO 2017. France has one of the largest pavilions. Now we are actively working on its arrangement in accordance with the theme of the exhibition ‘Future Energy’.
Next summer Astana will welcome visitors from 100 countries to see the international specialized exhibition. Training seminars are being held for volunteers across Kazakhstan to prepare them to meet the guests and make their stay comfortable. For example, recently the leaders of volunteer groups from all regions of the country held a meeting in Astana. The program of a two-day meeting included master classes on conflict prevention, leadership and other aspects of volunteering. Also the participants jointly developed a special Code. It prescribes the basic principles that the volunteers of Expo 2017 should be guided by. Nearly one hundred meetings are scheduled across the country ahead of the international exhibition.
AIDYN SABITOV, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, YOUTH CONGRESS OF KAZAKHSTAN:
Trainings are held on how to build communication, to address critical issues, in general, to form a team. Such work is well underway in all regions. The pace will increase. They will all meet in Astana ahead of the Expo.
Volunteers will work for 3 months during the Expo 2017. Most of the volunteers will help foreigners at the train station and the airport of the capital. But, of course, mainly they will work at the Expo site. According to the volunteers, to be involved in such large-scale project will be an unforgettable, valuable experience, which, in their opinion, will be beneficial for their future careers.
