Domestic tourism gains momentum in Kazakhstan

Ministry of Investments and Development plans to increase the number of tourists in Kazakhstan up to 8 million people by 2020. Experts, participants of the tourism market and representatives of the Tourism Department discussed the development prospects in the sphere. According to the meeting participants, at present, the main share of tourists consists of Kazakhstani citizens themselves. Tourism services have been rendered to over 2 million people in half a year. This is 6% higher than last year. However, foreign visitors are here mainly for work reasons. Among the primary goals of the Tourism Department is to create internationally recognizable brand for Kazakhstan as an interesting travel destination, to train service sector employees and support travel businesses especially when there is a promising development potential. As experts say, hosting the Expo certainly will attract hundreds of thousands of visitors to Kazakhstan. In addition, there are some more factors that can impact the global tourism flows.

Marat IGALIYEV, HEAD OF TOURISM, KAZAKH MINISTRY OF INVESTMENTS AND DEVELOPMENT:

We observed the growth of domestic tourism this year. There is a global tendency. Europe has a certain safety issue, migrants’ crisis. There is a switch of interests towards South-Eastern Asia, and we are on that way as well. Kazakhstan has a chance to attract more tourists.
