4th facility of ferroalloy plant reaches design capacity in Aktobe
The fourth workshop of Aktobe ferroalloys plant is reaching full production capacity. The plant plans to produce 440,000 tons of high-carbon ferrochrome by the end of 2017. Manufacturing of this particular product is in high priority in Kazakhstan’s mining and metallurgical industry. Aktobe ferroalloys plant project was funded by a subsidiary of Holding Baiterek and the Kazakhstan’s Development Bank which provided 40% of the amount. New technologies can only increase productivity but also reduce the amount of toxins. Now three furnaces work at full capacity in the plant, the fourth is in the warm-up stage.
Zhanibek NURMUKHAMBETOV, PROJECT TEAM LEADER, 4TH FACILITY OF FERROALLOY PLANT:
This allows us to smelt, produce metal in amount that is twice more than the existing production. And there is no need for special preparation of ore which has always been followed up. With this technology does not require additional production.
Production costs decreased after the launch of the fourth plant, and the percentage of local content reached 100%.
Serik DONBEKBAYEV, VICE PRESIDENT, FINANCE AND ECONOMICS, JSC KAZCHROME:
If before we bought the Russian and Chinese for the production of ferroalloys, now we are fully oriented at using of reducing agents from Karaganda and Shubarkol coal basins.
Aktobe ferroalloy plant’s products are in demand all over the world now. Up to 60% goes to China, and the rest to Europe and the United States.
