Nurlan Nigmatulin elected as chairman of Mazhilis
Nurlan Nigmatulin was elected as the Chairman of the Mazhilis. The plenary session of the Lower House of Parliament began with the staff reshuffle. 102 deputies unanimously supported the candidacy of Nigmatulin. Meanwhile, former speaker of the Mazhilis Bakhtykozha Izmukhambetov resigned due to his appointment as the Chairman of the Republican Council of Veterans. The candidacy of Nurlan Nigmatulin was the only one put forward for the post of Speaker of the Mazhilis. Previously Nigmatulin served as the Head of the Presidential Administration, the Mazhilis speaker of the 5 convocation, he held the post of governor of Karaganda region and the first deputy chairman of the 'Nur Otan' party. Taking the floor, Nurlan Nigmatulin thanked his colleagues and said that it is a huge responsibility to the Head of State and the Parliament staff. He added that he intends to provide a balanced approach to the opinion of all party factions and all the deputy groups. Also, new Mazhilis speaker promised to foster a maximum of efforts on the development of the legal framework of five institutional reforms.
