‘Silk Road’ development to facilitate growth of Kazakh economy
Development of a new ‘Silk Road’ will contribute to the growth of the Kazakh economy. This was stated by Director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in Kazakhstan Janet Heckman at the Astana Economic Forum. She noted that the project to create economic zone of the Silk Road aims to build a number of energy, transport and social infrastructure facilities. In turn, this will attract additional funds into the country not only from the partner country - China, but also from other countries and financial institutions. For example, according to Hackman, this year the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development plans to invest about one million dollars in Kazakhstan.
Janet HECKMAN, EBRD DIRECTOR FOR KAZAKHSTAN:
The Silk Road is particularly important because one of the real advantages of Kazakhstan is its geographic location in between China and Western Europe and also the route to Iran from China. So I believe the first trains just went last month all the way from China to the Irani port Bandar Abbas. So this is one of the things that EBRD really promoting, is investment in logistics, in infrastructure, in road construction, port construction, airport construction and also in industries, in construction materials that help with this infrastructure development.
