Moscow marks 150th birth anniversary of Alikhan Bukeikhan

Moscow honored the memory of the outstanding Kazakh public and state figure Alikhan Bukeikhan. The event on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the leader of the movement "Alash" was organized by activists of the student fraternities of the Russian University of Peoples' Friendship with the active support of the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Russia and the Kazakh Diaspora and historians. The participants laid flowers at the communal grave and dispel a handful of Kazakh soil. This was one of several communal graves at the Donskoy Cemetery in Moscow.  Scientists have found out recently that Alikhan Bukeikhan was buried there. According to recent reports, he was shot September 27, 1937. The same day, he was buried in the same grave with another Kazakh politician Nygmet Nurmakov. The outstanding politician Alikhan Bukeikhan was rehabilitated only in 1989 due to the lack of evidence.

Nurym BUKEIKHANOV, DOCTOR OF CHEMISTRY, PROFESSOR, MOSCOW STATE TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY ‘STANKIN’:

The first time I see that it was an organized event. One-time visit is undisputable, but at a level that is specially organized in my memory this is the first time. Thanks to the "Alash" party. This is one of the great achievements of the activities of the first government of the Kazakh autonomy, headed by Alikhan Bukeikhanov.
