Old house in Semey was included in “Sacral Map of Kazakhstan” project
An old house in Semey was included in the republican “Sacral Map of Kazakhstan” project. It is one of the region’s five landmark places that have been included into the map of Kazakhstan’s cultural sites. This house was purchased by Abai Kunanbayev for his apprentice Aniyar Moldabayev at the beginning of the 20th century. The great Kazakh poet has always been a welcomed guest in this house. The house has an underground passage.
MEIRAMGUL KAIRAMBAYEVA, DEPUTY HEAD, ‘ALASH ARYSTARY’ MUSEUM:
- According to the descendants, there was an underground passage here. It is closed and blocked now. According to Aniyar Moldabayev’s recollections, he took his daughter to school by the underground passage during winters. Of course, there are legends and they always surround such historical houses.
“Alash Arystary” museum dedicated to the Alash Orda members is located in the building now. The museum staff renovated expositions and recreated the interior of the beginning of the 20th century. Full-figure sculptures of famous people who visited this house can be found here, including those of Akhmet Baitursynov, Mukhtar Auezov, Shakarim Kudaiberdiyev, Alikhan Bukeikhan and Myrzhakyp Dulatov. The activists of the “Alash” movement met here to discuss their strategy and plans to fight for the freedom of the Kazakh people.
BAUYRZHAN DOSZHANOV, ALMATY CITY RESIDENT:
- Any nation moves forward with the knowledge of its history. For example, we have a very rich and interesting history. I think, that in our society, we can instill patriotism in young people by teaching history, from the Saka period, the Kazakh Khanate to the development of the “Alash” movement.
There are over a thousand exhibits in the museum. An autobiography written by Akhmet Baitursynov is one of the most valuable items.
