100 New Faces of Kazakhstan: Kuralbay Orynbassar and Vladislav Trifonov
The “100 New Faces of Kazakhstan” project lists the most outstanding people of Kazakhstan that the nation is proud of. These people reached significant achievements due to their tireless work and invincible will to win. Kuralbay Orynbassar is among the finalists of the project. At the age of ten, he lost eyesight but that didn’t stop him from becoming a three-time champion of Asia in sambo, medalist of the World Sambo Championship and the honored sambo coach of Kazakhstan. No one realized that the athlete has a third-degree disability. Many people learned about it only at the Rio Paralympics. Kuralbay Orynbassar is currently training a new generation of champions.
KURALBAY ORYNBASSAR, HONORED COACH OF KAZAKHSTAN:
- I didn’t become a world champion but I do my best for my students to become champions. They have already achieved a lot: there are Asia and world champions among them.
AMANKHAN OSKENBAYEV, SAMBO CHAMPION OF KAZAKHSTAN:
- He treats us as his own children: he supports every one of us; he is happy when we succeed and is worried when we fail. He always helps and supports us.
Vladislav Trifonov from Aktau was also selected for the project among 18 million people of Kazakhstan. He has demonstrated that there are no limitations for the people with disabilities. At the age of 15, Vladislav lost almost 100 percent of his eyesight, but he went on to pursue his university degree. He has three degrees now, in engineering, medicine and law. Vladislav Trifonov is currently working as the local governor’s advisor for ensuring the rights of the disabled people.
VLADISLAV TRIFONOV, ADVISOR TO GOVERNOR OF MANGYSTAU REGION:
- As for my long-term plans, I want and plan to serve as an expert in this area and reach a higher, international level. I would like to participate in commissions of international organizations and consider the issues of disabled people on a global scale.
