The year of 2017 marked a cultural revival and promotion of the spiritual heritage of Kazakhstan
The year of 2017 marked a cultural revival and promotion of the spiritual heritage of Kazakhstan. The main driver in this direction was the program Modernization of Public Consciousness initiated by the Head of State. Along with this, a historic milestone in the republic’s modernization was the decision to switch to the Latin script. The reform will be carried out in stages and, according to experts, will reveal all the richness of the Kazakh language and the invaluable heritage of the Kazakh people to the whole world.
NURSULTAN NAZARBAYEV, PRESIDENT OF KAZAKHSTAN:
- This year, we celebrated the 100th anniversary of Alashorda. We made a decision on the transition of the Kazakh alphabet to the Latin script. The transition to the Latin script has its own deep historical logic. This is not only the fulfillment of the dreams of our ancestors, but also the way to the future for younger generations. The country has already carried out economic and political reforms, now the program Modernization of Public Consciousness is being implemented.
The art and traditions of Kazakhstan are actively promoted abroad. For example, the Kazakh national game asyk is now known all over the world. This year it was included in the list of the UNESCO list of intangible cultural heritage of humanity.
KHANZADA YESSENOVA, CHAIRWOMAN, KAZAKHSTAN’SNATIONAL COMMITTEE FOR UNESCO:
- We carry great responsibility for complying with the requirements of the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. We have many plans. We will carry out several projects and activities to promote our heritage in Kazakhstan and abroad.
Another significant event of the passing year was the announcement of Turkestan the cultural capital of the Turkic world. Turkestan coped with its mission with honor. This opinion was expressed by representatives of the countries participating in TURKSOY. The city fully demonstrated all the spiritual wealth of the national culture. More than 40 different events took place in Turkestan this year.
KEMAL CHELIK, FORMER MEMBER OF NATIONAL ASSEMBLY OF TURKEY:
- Practically there are no Turks who do not know about Turkestan because we honor Kazakhstan as the motherland of our ancestors, and Turkestan as a cultural and spiritual center of all Turkic peoples. TURKSOY declared the historical city the cultural capital of the Turkic world. This news made me happy because this city deserves such a status.
Kazakhstan has become a venue for world-class cultural events this year. Placido Domingo Operalia was held as part of the international exhibition Astana Expo 2017. Kazakhstan’s national pavilion was opened at the 70th Cannes Film Festival for the first time in the history of Kazakh film industry. This gave Kazakhstani filmmakers a unique chance to present their proposals and discuss promising cooperation with foreign colleagues. According to experts, tremendous work has been done to increase the competitiveness of the national culture in the world over the past 12 months. Kazakhstani artists successfully performed at the famous stages abroad. This work will be continued next year.
