"Transition to the Latin alphabet will give a powerful impetus to development of the Kazakh language"
In the age of information technology it is necessary to be up to date. Therefore, the transition to the Latin alphabet will give a powerful impetus to development of the Kazakh language. Thanks to the new alphabet, it will become much easier to master the alphabet since this will expand the scope of its application. Most importantly, the transitioning will help preserve the cultural heritage of the Kazakh people. This was announced by Peter Van Der Hijden, the former director of higher education department of European Commission.
PETER VAN DER HIJDEN, FORMER DIRECTOR, HIGHER EDUCATION DEPARTMENT OF EUROPEAN COMMISSION:
- International platforms that we have Kazakh participants and the EU participants. So this is a very lively exchange and we all go through the necessity to modernize that is true for France, for Spain and Kazakhstan. So we can learn from each other how to do that, to do a lot of good work and investments. We have to train our population that is good for economy, society, and it is good for your personal well-being and we see the Kazakh is putting priority on that.
The IT employees support the transition of the Kazakh language to the Latin alphabet. Today many computer programs have no Cyrillic symbols. The new alphabet is one way to solve a problem that has existed for 30 years. According to scientists, this step will not only save time and money, but will also increase the competitiveness of specialists.
YERKIN ABIL, DEAN, KOSTANAI STATE PEDAGOGICAL INSTITUTE:
- Initially they lose competitively due to the fact that they are forced to spend additional money on adapting these programs to Cyrillic. Therefore, we need a transition to the Latin alphabet to develop IT, the Kazakh-speaking Internet community and software which is a very large and most promising market for the economy.
