Transition of the Kazakh alphabet to the Latin script will increase Kazakhstan’s global competitiveness
Transition of the Kazakh alphabet to the Latin script will increase Kazakhstan’s global competitiveness, teachers in Shymkent believe. Philologists and linguists highlight that the Latin script is the most widespread system of writing in the world; in fact, it is the language of science, innovation and IT technologies. Experts say that the new script is convenient for both reading and writing.
AINURA DZHUNISOVA, DEPUTY DEAN, AUEZOV SOUTH KAZAKHSTAN STATE UNIVERSITY:
- This is the trend of the modern times. It is connected with modern technological environment, peculiarities of scientific and educational processes. I think that the transition to the Latin script will bring Kazakhstan closer to the Turkic-speaking world. It will also help to build cultural and scientific ties with the world.
Kazakhstan’s public figures are discussing the transition to the Latin script. Prospects of the language reform have been analyzed in the People’s Assembly of Kazakhstan that represents all the ethnic groups living in the republic. Representatives of the ethnic centers believe that the process will open access to the world’s most advanced scientific and technological achievements. The heads of ethnic centers discussed it with university students in Almaty.
BAUYRZHAN BOZHBANBAYEV, ETHNIC CENTER’S DIRECTOR, PEOPLE’S ASSEMBLY OF KAZAKHSTAN:
- At the 16th Congress of the People’s Assembly of Kazakhstan, the President touched upon this topic, and "Mangilik Yel", Kazakhstan’s strategy 2050, has already set a specific task for the transition. The main goal is to explain students the future prospects and priorities of the transition to the Latin script, so they could hear it from authoritative public figures and leaders of ethno-cultural associations themselves.
